Air Mercury Monitoring at the Baikal Area

چکیده
The GMOS (Global Mercury Observation System) project has the overall goal to develop a coordinated observing system monitor mercury on global scale. Here we present long-term (2011–2020) air monitoring data obtained at Listvyanka station located shore of Lake Baikal, Siberia. shows obvious seasonal variation background concentration in air, which increases cold and decreases warm season. short-term anomalies are associated with wind carrying from industrial areas where several big coal-fired power plants located. A positive correlation between mercury, SO2 NO2 concentrations is observed both variations monthly average concentrations. analysis forward backward trajectories HYSPLIT model demonstrates revealing emissions sources. During cruise 2018, continuous survey over Baikal covered 1800 km. notably less comparison value onshore during same days cruise. That can lead conclusion that significant sink atmospheric mercury.

Toward the next generation of air quality monitoring: Mercury
Mercury is a global pollutant that is ubiquitous in the environment. Enrichment of mercury in the biosphere as the result of human activities and subsequent production of methylmercury (MeHg) has resulted in elevated concentrations in fish, wildlife and marine mammals globally. Elemental mercury (Hg0) is the most common form of mercury in the atmosphere, and the form that is most readily transp...
متن کاملAir-quality modelling in the Lake Baikal region.
In this paper, we assess the status of the air quality in the Lake Baikal region which is strongly influenced by the presence of anthropogenic pollution sources. We combined the local data, with global databases, remote sensing imagery and modelling tools. This approach allows to inventorise the air-polluting sources and to quantify the air-quality concentration levels in the Lake Baikal region...
متن کاملMercury: Cleaner Air on the Fly?
The coal industry represents more than half of America’s energy production, and DOE estimates place the recoverable reserve at more than 250 billion short tons. Coal is notorious for its drawbacks, however, including emissions of sulfur (which in the form of sulfur dioxide can react with atmospheric water to form sulfuric acid) and mercury (a known neurotoxicant). Now scientists from the Energy...
متن کاملBIOLOGICAL MONITORING OF MERCURY EXPOSURE IN DENTISTS OF TEHRAN
In order to assess the risk for mercury poisoning in dentists, urine specimens were collected and analysed from 250 dentists (190 male, 60 female). Subject data and pertinent health symptoms were asked via a questionnaire. The results indicate that the mean and standard deviation of mercury values were 51.3± 38.0 µg/L, while 27.2 percent of dentists had levels within normal limits (0-19 µg/...
متن کاملRapid Monitoring of Mercury in Air from an Organic Chemical Factory in China Using a Portable Mercury Analyzer
A chemical factory, using a production technology of acetaldehyde with mercury catalysis, was located southeast of Qingzhen City in Guizhou Province, China. Previous research showed heavy mercury pollution through an extensive downstream area. A current investigation of the mercury distribution in ambient air, soils, and plants suggests that mobile mercury species in soils created elevated merc...
